2012-2013 - ISS Partnership Program Information

 

The ISS Parter Program completed its summer week-long workshop with these ISS Partner Organizations:

  • Valley Christian High School (host school)
  • Fremont Christian High School
  • Riverside Christian High School
  • Maranatha Christian High School
  • The Girl Scouts of Hawaii
  • BEWiSe –Better Education for Women in Science and Engineering
  • Los Gatos High School
  • Minnehaha Academy

Over 100 students will participate in the ISS program this school year designing, building, testing and getting NASA qualified eleven Micro-Labs that will ride on the ISS in the Spring of 2013 for a period of 30 days.

Hellyer School Jr. University

Hellyer Public Elementary School Joins Quest Institute for Quality Education

The Quest Institute for Quality Education welcomes Hellyer Public Elementary School and Principal Jerry Merza to Quest Institute membership. Principal Merza is encouraged and enthusiastic about Hellyer student's improved achievement scores. In 2007 the school's API scores were well below the statewide standard of 800. Combined efforts of the Franklin-McKinley School District, the Hellyer school leadership, hardworking teachers and community partnerships have all contributed to significantly improved learning at Hellyer Elementary School. Recent API scores include 26 perfect math scores and one student with a perfect score in both English language arts and math for a total of 27 perfect API scores! Valley Christian High School students, led by the Hellyer administration and faculty launched Junior University in 2007. This year, more than 175 Valley Christian High School volunteer tutors help teach art, athletics, band, choir, dance, instrumental music, and robotics to Hellyer students.

Light House

Light House is an after school program at Hellyer Elementary School. Our VCHS Community Outreach students travel down to Hellyer Elementary School each week to share enrichment activities with the elementary students.
